Courage was her crown and she wore it like a queen

Birgu (a small city in Malta) has been given the name of ‘Citta Vittoriosa’ (Victorious City) given its contribution to defend Malta in a number of battles. This painting portrays the notion of courage and victory.

The sitter was very proud to take the role of a little queen for this piece.  When I met her to discuss my ideas for this work she liked best the concept of a crown and a flag to represent a proud and victorious queen. And who needs a real crown when you have fairy lights?
